... backup as it should be performed!

Why use 24sevenbackup?
Firstly, backing up data is a critical aspect of all businesses. It is an area that is seldom properly addressed even though recovery from data loss is time-consuming, expensive and may lead to lost business.

Do your current backup procedures meet the following criteria:

  • Formal backup procedure in place
  • Backup procedure rigorously enforced
  • Provision for holidays, illness, staff time constraints
  • Backups include data verification
  • Multiple backup copies taken
  • Version control to allow point-in-time restores
  • Data restore facility tested
  • Data encrypted to provide protection from theft, data tampering or malicious attack
  • Backups stored offsite (overlooked in 90% of businesses)

24sevenbackup provides all of the above in a simple-to-use, automated system. In fact, you may well forget it is happening!

How easy is it to use?
Very. Once the Client software is installed, the application uses simple file ‘tagging’ to indicate the folders and files to be backed up, or restored. Set your preferred backup schedule, and the software takes care of the rest. There is no need for further interaction unless you want to change your original settings. Return to Top

Is it cost effective?
The calculation is easy. A fairly simple back-up, with version control, verification and multiple copies, should take an efficient employee about 30 minutes per day to complete. If you pay that employee €10 per hour, that is €108 per month. That is without factoring in the cost of hardware and backup media. 24sevenbackup provide a fully automated professional backup service from as little as €1.23 per backup - a saving of over €80 per month. Nor does it forget, take sick leave or go on holidays! In addition, you get back almost 11 hours per month of the employee’s time for more productive work. Return to Top

Does it work with my Operating System?
24sevenbackup is compatible with all Windows Operating Systems, including Vista. The software allows data to be backed up from all local and networked drives. Return to Top

Why use Remote Backup?
Apart from being simple-to-use, automated and cost effective, Remote Backups provide better compliance with Data Protection requirements. Instead of sending backups to local media attached to the computer being backed up, a remote backup encrypts and compresses the data then sends it to a secure data storage facility, safely offsite. The backup file is verified twice during this process to ensure that the backed up data is a correct image of the original, and to ensure that the transferred file is an exact copy of the encrypted file being transferred from your computer. Return to Top

Why are Remote Backups considered more beneficial?
The data is immediately stored offsite using an automated backup system. Also, only an internet connection is needed. Completely eliminating the need for expensive backup equipment and media. And, since the system is automated, manual Labour, human error and media failure are eliminated. In addition, the data is encrypted to provide an exceptional level of data protection. Files are verified both before and after transfer to ensure accurate recording of client data. Return to Top

Can I check that the backup worked?
You receive an e-mail report following the completion of each backup. The report is accompanied by the Backup Logs giving details of all the folders and files included in the backup set. In addition, you can do a simple Restore at any time to verify the backup process. Return to Top

What if we already have a tape backup system?
Using a tape backup system and a remote backup system offers the best of both worlds. Critical files, like accounts, customer contact files and databases can be kept on the remote backup system. While, the tape system can be used to create a full backup of the entire system once or twice a month, instead of on a daily basis. The tapes and drive will last longer and require less maintenance. The remote backup system can provide a quick and easy way to retrieve critical files and databases without the hassle of searching through tapes. Return to Top

What if we already have a Zip drive?
Frankly, we believe that it is not optimal for most users. Users should not use a zip or other removable disk media for backup. A remote backup service is completely automated and has the required file redundancy to protect important data. The only safe way to use a zip drive for backup is to have three disks and make the same backup three times. That way when one of the disk fails you are still protected. In addition, zip drives lack the security of data encryption. Return to Top

How long will a Remote Backup take?
Backing up data can take minutes or hours depending on the size of the source data, the compression level that can be accomplished, and the speed of the connection. Do not forget that backups are scheduled to run at night when neither computers nor internet connections are being used. Incremental backups, that only backup those files that are new or that have changed since the last backup, will be the quickest. Full backups take longer but can be scheduled for the week-end when the time-frame is less critical. Return to Top

What needs to be done for a daily backup?
24sevenbackup is fully automated. The software only needs to be configured once to run according to the chosen schedule. Having choosen the list of folders/files to be backed up, the weekly backup schedule and preferred time, the software takes care of the rest. No daily interaction is required unless you want to change the backup settings. You only need to make sure that the PC is left running to allow the client software to ‘awake’ to accomplish the scheduled tasks. Return to Top

What type of internet connection do I need?
A fast Internet connection is recommended - duel-channel ISDN, Broadband or Cable. No additional equipment is needed - unlike tape and zip backups which require additional hardware and media supplies.  Return to Top

Will my Firewall interfere with it?
24sevenbackup works with leading market Firewalls. Adjustments to the Firewall configuration are seldom required. Return to Top

How secure are Remote Backups?
Very. All files are encrypted with a unique encryption code known only to the user.  The software offers you a choice of 8 encryption types, including one used by the U.S. Federal banking system. The default, Blowfish, has never been known to be broken by a hackerReturn to Top

What is encryption?
Encryption is basically a mathematical formula that scrambles a data file. And the only way to unscramble it is with the encryption code. This is all handled automatically for you by the backup software. However, it is vital that you keep a record of your unique Encryption Key, as this is known only to you (and users authorized by you) - 24sevenbackup do not have access to this Key. Return to Top

What happens if the backup is interrupted?
If the backup is interrupted, the software attempts to re-establish a connection and resume the backup from where it was interrupted. If the system is unavailable to do a backup at the scheduled time, perhaps powered off, then the software sets itself to resume at the next scheduled time.  Return to Top

Does the service cover more than one computer?
The software can backup data from any local or networked computer. Return to Top
