How it works
24sevenbackup runs on all versions of Microsoft Windows, including Vista. The software allows you to back up data from any local or networked computer.
Backing up Data ...
The 24sevenbackup Client software is downloaded to a computer at your site and installs automatically. Configuration is minimal, requiring only ‘ticking’ files and folders to choose what to backup and ’ticking’ the days and times you wish the backup to run. The automated software keeps track of the date, time and type of the next backup, and "hides" on the System Tray without interfering with any other program.
At the prescribed time the 24sevenbackup Client software "wakes up" and determines which files need backing up, and what type of backup (full or incremental) is scheduled for that session. It then compresses those files into archives that can in many cases be only 5% to 15% of the original file sizes. These archives are then encrypted using the encryption key known only to you.
When the files are compressed and encrypted, the software connects to the 24sevenbackup Server and transfers the backup. The backup is verified for integrity before sending and while being sent, then again after it reaches our Server. This ensures that the copy of the backup that is on our Server exactly matches the copy that was sent from your system. For added peace of mind, you receive an e-mail notification following each backup confirming that the process was successful, or highlighting any issues or exceptions in the event that any occured.
Once the backup is sent to the Server and verified, the Client software returns to idling state, once again "hiding" until the next scheduled backup. Return to Top
Restoring Data...
24sevenbackup Client software restores data using an easy to understand user interface.
Simply:
- pick the RESTORE option from the menu
- tag the files to be restored
- choose Restore
- the Client software restores the files to their original location
You are presented with a list of all your own files stored on our Server. This file listing is sorted by Backup Set Name and Backup Date. The file listing usually contains several versions of the same files. This is part of the exclusive Version Control system built into 24sevenbackup. This system lets you restore any version of your files - not just the latest version.
You can select files and sets of files by tagging and untagging files individually or in groups. In addition, there is an extremely powerful File Finder feature - with a single selection, you can select (as examples)
- the latest version of all files
- only a particular subdirectory
- a single drive letter
- files who's names match a certain criteria
Files can be untagged the same way. So, you can come up with virtually any set of files you want to restore by using combinations of any or all tagging options.
When the files to be restored are all tagged, 24sevenbackup restores them to your computer. In addition, you can retsore files to their original folders or to an alternate location. Return to Top
